J In either of there fences, the Lord Pets his heart upon man, he greatly loves man; the love of God toman,is the fpring of mercy to man, yea love is the fpring of love, love attcd fprings from a decree of love (Dent. 7 7.) The Lord thy God didnot fee his love uponyou, &c, becaufe ye were more in numbers then any etherpeople, but becaufe the Lord lovedyou, Love alto led in that higheft work of mercy; the giving of Chri(i : God fo loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son. Joh.3. i6. M love is the fpring and root of all the real duty, whichman performesto Gad, and is therefore called thefulfilling ofthe law; our love fulfilled) the will of God : fo the love of God is the root of all that good we receive, his love fulfilled) our will, thatis, whatfocver we will or askaccording to the will of God,the love of God fulfills it for us. Our love fulfils the law of Godscommand, and Gods love ful- fils the law of our wants and lawful delires. His heart is fee up- on us, and then his hand is open to us. Further, God Both not only love man, but his love, is great, and his efleemofman very high s and he realil.s the greatcft love,by bellowing the greatefi mercy : How did God fet his heart u pon us,when hegave his Son, who lay in his bofome for us,Hejet hi bofome upon us, when begave us hit Son, who came out ofhis fame. Hence let us feeour duty. Should not wefetour hearts upon God,when God fees his heart upon us ? the foveraignty of God, calls for our hearts: he, as Lord may ufe all that we have, or are : And there is more than a lawof foveraignty,why3we fhould give God our hearts; Godhath given us his heart fiat: he who calleth for our hearts, hath firil given us his. What are our hearts to his heart? the love of God infinitelyexceeds the love and affeEtion of thecreature. What were it to God ifhe had none ofour hearts? but the to us,ifwe had not the heart ofGod. This phrafe thews us reafon why God calls for our hearts, hegive us his own, it is but equal among men, to love wherewe are loved, to give a heart where we hive received one ; howmuch more fhould we Jove God,and give himour hearts, when we hear he loves usand fits his heart upon us,whofe lqve and heart alone, is infinitely better then all the loves and hearts ofall men and Angels.
