There is a twofold light. Firft, The light of Gods providence. Secondly, The light of Gods countenance. The light ofGods countenance never thines upon the counfel of the wicked, they have only the light of his providence. _fie never thines upon them to favour them , though he often thines upon them to profper them. The clouds and darknefs, which at a- ny time cover the counlels of the righteous, are clearer then all .the liglát which (tines upon the counfcis of the wicked. God varies Ms difpenfations often, but he never varies his aired} ions ; whatfoever txe Both againfi the righteous, he never hates or dif=' likes them ; and whatfoever he doth for the wicked , he never loves or likes them. But who are the wicked 'intended in this text, upon whole counfels God will not thine ? There are four apprehenlions about it : who are wicked all agree; but who thde-wicked are is not a- greed. Some refer the word to his friends, I know thou wilt not favour their finfui cenlures and rafh judgments concerning me. Surely they (hall receive little thanks and lets reward for thefe difcourtelies; thou wilt not goforth with them, or give witnefs to what they have done ; thou wilt not confirm or attefl what they have fpoken. fob (I grant)--found little comfort fromhis friends : but I do not find that they gave himevil counlel,nnuch lets that they took wicked éounfel'againft him. The Lord reproved them for the er- rourof theirfpeech, but he did not reprove themfor the wicked- nefs of their perfons. Indeed job charges them deeply (Chaps 3. 7.)
