Chap. to. Bt Expofitien upon the PeokofJ O B. Verf. 5. tnaf;e[peed and baJlen bit work, that we may fee it. The Lord ap- pears flow and flack to manymen, but the Lordit not flackasfume men count flacknefr ( 2 Pet. 3. 9. ) Men think he is flack, whenhe is onlypatient, and themfèlves ignorant, That a theuJandyears to the Lordare but as one day; Gud doth not meafure time byour, pole, nor call it up by our Arithmetick. Eternity dada not only, like the unjufi lieward, bid us write, fiftyforan hundred, but onefor a tboufand, and (which bears the difproportion ofdivers hun- dreds in every one of that thoufand ) one day for a thoufand years. Time is not only a final' thing, but nothingunta God, Mine age ( faith David) is nothing unto thee (Pfal. 39. 5.) And ifall Nations before him are as nothing, if they are counted to hint left then nothing(Ifa. 40.17.) Then not only the age of man, but the ages ofall men added together, are before him as nothing, and are counted to him lets then nothing. Surely hecannot want time todo all thinggs, before wbnn all things are nothing. He cannot want time to pour out his judgements and to empty the vials of his wrath upon wicked men, nor canhe want time to fulfil his promifes, and to make good every wordof blefsing which he path fpoken to, or concerning his own people ; Wicked men! Doe not ye hope ; Godly men ! Do not ye fear, God will not doe what he hath laid, becaufe he bath not already done it. He hath not loll his time or feafon, becaufe he bath not accepted that, which ye thought tobe the time or feafon. Chri(l-warns his Dif- ciples(John 9.4.) to make halle about their work, for the -uigbt (namely ofdeath) cometh whcretn no man can work; while-you have the day ,doe your work, for I knew what day yours is, your day will be gone, and the night will come, then you can work ne more t But Gods day fears nonight, what ever comes he can do his work. The Preacher gives the fame counfel upon the fame gtound(Ecclef9.) Whatf)ever thine hands findeth to de, do it with all thy might ; lay hold on the fore-lock of time, why ? There is no srif"dom or counfel in the grave whither thou goefi ; When thou theft there is an end ofall thy working time; doe thy work well, for thou canfl not recall a day of thy life tomend thy work in, neither canfh thou work at all in that night ofdeath. The Lords dayknows nothing of a grave, nor is his Sun acquainted with going down; if he feem flack to his work, or flack at his work this day and the next, e! c. yet he bath another day at his call, and after that another and another, all which are to him but one Ooo day.
