¶O2 Chap. 10. An Expofition upon the Book of J O B. Verf y, he cannot but do, what he is refofved, yeawhat he is ready to do. Mercy pleafeth God fo much, that he often appears dìfpleafed on purpofe, that we may remember himof his mercy. He delights we fhould defire, what he delights to grant. Secondly, The Saints ufually mind God of his Covenant. God is ever mindfull of his Covenant ( Pfal. i t t. $ .) yet he loves to be minded of it. His royal Title is, The God that keepeth Cove- aunt for ever ; yet he loves to be defired not to break it. Thus Jeremy begs for the f ews, the Covenant -people of God, Do net abhor us for thy namefake, Do not difgrace the Throne ofthy glory, remember, breaknot thy Covenant with ttr, Jet. 14. 21. The Pfal- mill prays upon the fame ground, Have re;pee? to the Covenant for thedarkplaces of theearth arefull ofthe habitations ofcruelty. As if he had faid Lord, Thou hati made a -Covenant to preferve and proteo thy people, but now they are, oppreffed ; Thr darkplaces, that is, paces full of ignorance and wickednefs(which are fpi. ritual darknefs) are full of cruelty : Holy knowledge bath no fuck enemy as ignorance. When a man is wrong'd who intends revenge, he will fay to the party wronging him, well,Re- otember tbis,or,1 fhall rememberyoufor this. Revengeful men have, thong memories: fo hath the God to whomvengeance belongeth. Nc will certainly remember the f nful, revengeful cry of Edam a. gainft jerufàlem, though the fins of Jerttfalemdid_ery tohinifor vengeance. The PLlmill is as earneft in another, place, urging the Lord to remember for his own intereit, as here for the:ifterett of his Sion, Pfal.7q.. 18.. Remember this, that the enemy bath re- p vacbei, O Lord, and that the foolifh people have blaffbemed thy N:'me.
