Chap. I:. e/fn Expoftión upon the BoolLof J O B. Verf.i 143 becaufe there is hope ; thatis, becaufe thouhaft a lure word upon which to call the anchor of thy hope. True hope is rooted in the prornife and fruited with peace. That's it which in this point we call fecurity. When a lender hath the wordof a good man for his money , he is Paid to have good fecurity. How fecure then may the Saints be, who have the word of the goodGod for their fecurity ? Thou 'halt be fecurebecaufe there is. hope. That is, Thou (halt not only have a prefent good eflate, and Rare of blefpings in poffeffion, but abundance in expeirlation; Hope is of good things to come ; An affurance of what we have not , is as good a fettlement to the heart as what wehave ; and he that can look for no more then he hath, cannever haveAided heart. The hope of more is a richer inheritance then the inhe- riting of much. Were it not for hope the heart would break in evil times and were it notfor hope the heart would be unfa- tisfied in the bell times. It is never well with us in this life till we can upon warrantable termes look beyond what we fee. Vifion will be enough for us in heaven but on earth we cannot have a vifion of any good thing which is enough. This makes the diffe- rence between the "late of the Saints and of worldly men We walk,by faith , and not by fight ; They walk by fight and not by faith. Faith leads us into theTreafury ofGod , fight leaves them among the treafures of men. Our bell dilate lies in invifibles :: Sence is of things prefent or feen , which are. but temporal ; faith and hope are of things abfent, and out offight, which are eternal. Further, Thefe protniffory words, Thou Jhalt be fecurebecaufe there is hope, may referre, Firfl, To the attaining of a good condition. Secondly , To the spar eft`metit increafng or bettering, of that good condition to which he rum. Dru. 1hould attain. Thirdly , To the keeping or maintaining of the good which fhould be fo increafed. Thou (halt have a morning, there's good attained, thy morningpall rife up to a noon-day, there's good increafed , thy noon )hall not decline there's good maintained, and becaufe of all there hopes, thou fhalt be fecure and all thefe hopes muff meet to makeup a full fecurity. Hence Obferve, Dope in God is the fettlement and fecurity ofthe foul. There is a.hope which is ill fet, fuch a hope cannot fettle us. That.
