Sixthly,The text tels us that drunkennefsmakes men ftagger; they cannot keep their feet , nor Rand their ground. Such a judgement God fendeth upon wicked men : their minds are full of irrefolutions, they are not able to fland to their own purpo fes and promifes they ftagger from this part to that, from this fide to that : They change interefts as fait as there is any change in affairs or outward accidents. Now they are for the truth ; andprefentiy'they oppofe the truth. They are like the double mindedman,ofwhom the Apollle James fpeaks, unftable in all their waies, Laftly, Drunken men often run upon their own ruine. We have a faying, that drunkardsfeldome take hurt, the meaning is , they are not fenfible of the hurt they take; they indeed take hurt oftner then any men , and rundefperately upon their own death. Thus men left ofGod runcourfes as unfafe , as they are -unjuft : and while they make too much haft to fave , deftroy themfelves.
