Chap. 13. An Expopion uponthe BookofJos . Verf. 19 will plead with me ? As the Apofile fends a challenge in the be- half of believers (Rom,8.33.) Who[hall condemn ? Who (hall lay any thing to the charge of Gods el ,f ? let me fee the manor devil whodares. So believers are ak to fend challenges themfelves. Who is it that will plead withus ? but are therenone will do it ? will none accept their challenge ? yea, many may be found to plead with them, but none can overcome them. This text in Job, and the point grounded upon it, is of the fame interpretation with that (Rom.8.3 a.) If God be with us, who can be againfi us? Who can be againft us ? many are againfl thofe with whom God is, yea, many will be again(l.them becaufe God is with them. They are mofi oppofed by men whomGod owneth moll. But who can be aainfl us, to overthrow and conquer us? we (hall fland againtl all oppolìtion if God be with us. So here, Whowill plead with me ? Job had thofe that would plead withhim, he wanted not undercakers, therewas Eliphaz., Bildad, andZophar ; thefe plead- edwith him,but thefedid not overcome him. God gives fentence for Job,chap.4z.7. rehave notfpoken of me the thing that is right, as myfervant Job hath. The Prophet brings in Jefus Chrifl in íuch a triumph of fpirit over all partible enemies or oppofer§ (Ifa.5o. 7,8.) Where as he had (hewed Chrifl profefling that all his power to fulfill the alivepart of his Mediatorfhip was derived tohim fromhis father (verf. 4.) The Lord hush given to me the tongue ofthe Learned, &c.So therehe thews that all the ftrength and courage with whichhewas armed to fu(fer or contend in the paflive part of his Mediatoríhip, was alfo derived to tfm from his Father, and maintained in him by a continual fupplyof his atiliílance. TheLord God will help me, therefore(hall Inot be cón- founded, therefore have I fet my face its aflint, and I know that I fhall not be afhamed : he isnear that juflifieth me, who will contend withme ? Let us 'land together (asplaintiff and defendant ufe -to do in a law fuite before the Judge) who is mine adverfary ? Lo theyall(hall wax oldas agarment, themoth [hall eat them. Thefe words are a comment uponJob, and fully explain his meaning : both give us theLengthof this Obfervation.
