482 Chap. r 3. An E,opofation upon the Book of os, J Verf. 19 The Apoflle Paul applies that of the Prophet ( whichorigi- nally belongs to Chrifl ) to the, comfort of every Believer (Rom. 8 33, 34)Who [hall lay anything to the charge ofGods, elell ? It is God that jeoflifieth : Who is he th ondemneth ? It is Chrifl that died, yea ,sather thoit ¡s rifèn again; who isevenat the right handof God. Here are the holy challenges of faith ; faith is ready for all corners. If the law come to plead with us, faith tels it that Chris} bath fulfilled the law for us. If fin come to oppofe us, faith tels it, Chrifl in thefimilitude offnful flefh hatbcondemned fin in the fle(h. If death come and look the foul in the face, faith anfwers, Chrifl bathaboliflieddeath, and brought life andimmorta- lity to light through the Gofpel: yea, faith can, not only anfwer, but fcorn death, O death, where it thyfling ? If the devil come, faith tels him he is but a conquered enemy, and that Chrift bath;. ( long lince) fpoiled principalities andpowers, and wade Phew of them openly; that Chrifl came to deflroy (and hath deflroyed in us) the works of the devil. Thus faith repels the charge of the law, offin, of hell,' andof the devil ; yea, if Godhimfelf frown upon the foul, and his wrath feem.to burn as hot as fireagainff us,faith can tell Godhimfelf that Chrill hath paid our debt, and given a ranfome to God for us, and therefore knows that he will not require it of us again, becaufehe isjuf, and thejufliferof him that delieveth sn Jefus. If none of thefe, if neither law, nor fin, nor death, nor devil, nor God himfelf (confidering how he bath been pleafed to condefcend topoor (ingers, And engage himfelf to Chrift on our behalf) Can plead down the believing foul, then nothing can.
