6z6 Chap. 14. e,4n hxpfitign upon the Bookof J O B. Verf,i4. the 5th verle , I will not here renew that difcourfe. 7 :q% 7:-".`n The Hebrew is all the days of my warfare The reafonof (t.11: which bath alto been !Hewed (chap.7. r.) Thedays of man are Cus:llis dicks but travel and warfare , a continual combat with temptations naeæ and trials , as was opened there : The Scripture delights to let expeiab..talon. forth the forrows of mans life under thofe two Gmilitudes of a wayfaring man and a warfaring man. Under both notions the dutyof the text (waiting) is allo fbadowed. Towait bath four things in it. Firft An ael of patience he that waits muff be content to flay : He that beleeves will not make haft, that is, he waits, and he that waits makes hafte to beleeve, or hope, which is the fecond thing. Secondly , It bath an aet of hope in it , he that waiteth is in expe&ation to receive : He hopes mercy will come at Taft To wait upon God implies there is fomewhat to be had fromGod. He that bath no hope will never wait. Thirdly, An at of humility, he that is in a waiting condition is in a low condition , And as his condition is low , fo his fpirit fhould be lowly, waiting (peaks theduty ofa fervant. Fourthly , The waitinghere intended carries in it utmofl per- feverance,All the days ofmyappointed time will Iwait. Some wait, but'ch only for a time : they are fhort- breath'd and their pati- ence quickly tires. That wicked King faid , this evil it of the Lord, whyfhouldl wait upenhim any longer ? (z Kin.6. 33 .) He that waits indeed, continues waiting, he waits long, and he will wait yet longer. As a good heart will not let God wait long, no not at all (willingly) for obedience, fo he is willing to wait as long as God fees good for deliverance. We muff not let God flay long for our work but we mutt flay as long as God pleafeth for his work. Hence Obferve, Firft, It is our duty to wait Gods timefully. efl11 the days of my appointed time will lwait ; and this both in regard of perfonal and of publike delires or needs , (Hab.z. 2, 3.) The vifion is for an appointed time, but at the endit pall Ipeak, and not lie, that is , it (hall not fail : All failing is a kinde of lying : He that fails of truth when he fpeaks, lies in word , and he that fails of performing what he fpeaks, lies in deed. The vi- lion of God fpeaks and will not lie : but it fpeaks not till the end
