Firft, From the extreme love and good affeâion which a carnal heart bears to fin as the love which Believers bear , to Chriti , is not onely a motive provoking them to doe for Chrift; but alto toperfèvere in doing for Chrift, though they fulfer much indoing forhim ;, he that loves Chrift will not only fweat at his work, but bleed at his work, ifhis work can- not be carried on without bleeding. Thus alto the love of wicked men to their lufls,isnot only a motiveprovoking them to fulfil their lufts, but to endure any, thing for the fulfilling of them ; Love it the fpringof labour , aelions arc affea lions put forth, andmade vifble : Love is alto the fpringof valour, as well in a bad caufe , as in a good caufe : What is it that love dares not attempt , towards the attainment of what we love cfrfanywaters cannot quench love neither can the fhod: drown it : Love is fuch avehement flame,that though you call the waters of forrow, yea, floods of trouble upon it , yet thefe cannot extinguith:it ; much more than will keep it alive after many defers and difappointments. his the Obfervation of one of the Ancients, that love built the twoCities , Holy Love built the City of God, and unholy Lovebuilt, or isdaily building the Cityof Satan : And though it be much hinder- ed and oppofed in buikling this City; yea, though the mate- rials with which it would rarfe and fortifie this City be often; fcattered ana broken, yet thefe builders will providemore ma- terials, Their belly prepareth deceit. Secondly, This their unwearied - proje&ing and acing after difcouragements and difappointments, arifeth from the extreme define they have to attain their end.
