Ghap.16. AnExpofttion upon the BookofJ O B. Verf.zg. 367 Godbefore a throng of humane witneffes; and when wehave enoughon earth, yet fay with job, My witnefs is it* Heaven. The witnefs of the men of this world, orofevill men (while wekeep a good confcience) is a mercy. But as the witnefsof good men is more detireable, than the witnefs of all other men, and the witnefs of a good confcience is more defireable than the witnefs ofgood men; fo the witnefs of God is more defire- able than ;without which we cannot have it, and with which we (hall have it) the witnefs of a good confcience. For as the teffimonieofGod againli us, is more terrible than that ofour own hearts, i 3oh.3.ao. Ifour heart condemn ut, God isgreater than our hearts, and knoweth all things ; and therefore; knoweth more evill by us, and every evill more than our own hearts do: Co the tellimony of God for us is more comfortable, than that of our own hearts. If our hearts ac- quit us, uod is greater than our hearts, and knowing all things, he knoweth more good by us, and every good more than our own hearts, do ; who can expreffe or tell how plea- fang it is to receive this te(limony from God, that we pléafe God. Behold(faith David, Pfal.133.;1.) howgood andpleafänta thing it isfor Brethren to dwell together in unity: But O how good and pleafant a thing it is for God and man to dwell to- gether in unity;fora man to be always giving witnefs toGod, that he is good and gracious, and for God to be alwayes gi- ving witnefs to man, that he is uptight and righteous. When confcience fp.eaks us fair, we have peace and a continual feaft, but when God (peaks us fair, and gives us an enge from Heaven, Well done good andfaithful Servants, we have peace which paffeth all underflanding, and not only a joyful fealt, but a feafl of joyes, which are unfpeakable, and full ofglory. Yea when we areat the fullelï Tables of this world, this is the ranee in our di(h, and the fugar in our cup : Go thy way (faith the Preacher, Eccl.9.7.) eat thy bread with joy, and drinktby winew.i;h a merry heart; why ? whats the matter now ? ) For now God.accepteth thy workr, 7bou hafla witnefs in Heaven. Thirdly, Obterve ; goad man. dares.appeal andput his.caufe to God. A wicked man will.fometinaes appeal, and put his caufe to God out ofprefumption and impudence : but a good manap. peals.to God in faith, and holy confidence. ° As
