It is a comfort to him in his forrows, to think that he shall dye (hortly, when a fewyears are come, I fhaAgo the way, rvc. he (peaks pleafantly, the mentionof death was a life to him. jobs life was a kindofdeath, and therefore to him efpecially death will be a kind of life ; were onr hearts rightly affected, they that have the moil lively life , would think death better then this life, I defire(faithPaul) to be diffolved, and to be with Chrift, which is heft ofall. Death was better to him then life, and left any (hould fay , no marvail if Paul defired to die, who couldscarce tell where to live, and no marvail ifhe would dyeonce for all, who was in deaths often To prevent this cavil, he adds, Wbicb x beft ofall. Barely to dye is better to force then a troublefomè life, but to dye and be with Chrift, is better then the beft life, much more is it better then that life in this world, which is a continual death, as job's was, how fhould fuch a man fing out job's verfe, When afew dayes are come, Ifhall go the way, whence I(hall not return. When a man hath worn a fuite of Ap parrel a great while, and hath even worn it out, or it be- comes foul and flatly, would he not be glad to put that off, and get anew one upon his back ? Therefore death is called an uncloathing, a putting off the flab there is no hurt in that ; when a manbath tyred himfelfall the day at his work, would he not gladly go to bed?
