Now though both the glory ofGrace,and the grace ofglory, even all the good things, or fatnes, both of this life, and of the life to come, be the portion, and ( by promife ) thedue of the righteous, yet this righteous Prophet cryes out, My leaneneffe,my leaneneffe. Willyefull perfecute him,whorn yeought to pittie ? Thus he is conceived reprooving them. But rather take the words as an humble, yet earneft intreatie, and fo we may title them fob's petition to hisfriends; he had ar- gued and difputed with them long,but nowhe entreates and fup- plicates. In this fupplicationwe may confider Pirft, The fubftance or matter of it, or what he defires, that is, pittie. Secondly, We may confider the circumfrances or forme of it ; there is life and fpirit in it,' tis quick,pa(lionate,and peircing, and 'tis quickned two wayes. Firft, By an exclamation, Have pittie upon me, O yee my friends. He doth not onely fpeake, but cry to them for pittie. Interjections are imperfect fpeeches,but they carry the molt per- feet fenfe, both ofour wants, and of our delies.
