Chrift as God had power to redeemeus,but as being (Immanuel) God with us, one withus, a kinfman, a Brother, henot onely had .a right, but he was obliged to redeemeus. To cleare the poynt a little further, there arg five things con- curring to- compleat the office and fervice of our Redee= me r. Firft, The Redeemer muff be a kinfman. Secondly, He muff redeeme upon that ground, or underthat notion, as a kinfman. Thirdly, He mutt deliver thofe who were under reftraint or captivitie, from the hand of their enemies and oppreffors. Fourthly, He muff not pay any price to the opp effor. Fifthly, He mutt pay the price to the true Lord, or into his hands; to whom the redeemed originally and of right doe be- long. Thefe five Contiderations meet in Chrift our redeemer ; For 1Fir[t, He is our kinfman. Secondly, He redeemed us upon that account, as he was a brother or kinfman. Thirdly, He bath fetcht us out.of the hands of our oppreffor the Devill. Fourthly, He payd nothing to the Devil( in lieu of our re- demption.
