Chap. 19. Aie ExpofitionupontheBookof JOB. Verf. 2 . 331 on over Chrift, for he had no feed ofdeach, that is; no ruin him ( The Throne of death is founded upon fin, as the Throne of life is founded upon righteoufneffe) Chritt fubmitted him- felfe to death, but it was not pofblehe/hould be holden o+ it,or lhb- jeeted by it ( Ads 2. 24.) But now not onely hath finno abfo lute dominion over him, but no dominion over hits ; and when the Apoftle faith, `Death hath no doenion over him ; his mean- ing is, death hash nothing at ail todoe with him. In this life of Chrift our comfort lives. Wehave a twofold comfort in the life ofChrift, Firft, In that he liveth, he liveth to ut ; that is, he liveth for our good. So the Apoftle concludes ( deb. 7. 25.) He is able to fave them to the uttermofl that come untoGod by him, feeinghe ever liveth to make intereeffion for them. We are affuredofa twofold Salvation by the intercefliou of Chrift. Firft, of a temporal( falvation from troubles and outward evills; Secondly, of an eternal! falvation from fin andcondemlation. Therefore ( faith Taal, 'Tim.4.1o.)We both labour andPuffer reproach, becaufe we trait in the livingGod,who is the Saviourofall men, fpecialy ofthole who beleeve. The living Clod is the Saviour ofall men, yea, he fa- veth man and beaft (P¡':l. 36. 6.) by his generali providence; but he faveth believers by an adt of fpeciall providence ; and therefore they are ready, not onely to doe their utmoft for him, but to venture the loffe ofall for him, they both labour andPuffer reproach, becaufe theycraft in the living Clod, who faveth them a- bove all other men, becaufe Chrill ever liveth to make intercef- fión for them, which he doth not for other men. Secondly, We have this further comfort in the life of Chrift, that we live in him ; Foras Chritl is the life ( Joh. 14. 6.) fo, he is our life ( Col. 3. 4. ) Our life is bound up in him ; Chrift is indeed the bundle of life, ( Sam. 25. 29.) in whom the lives of all beleevers are bound up, Hence ( which is a fpring of everlatting affurance and confolation) himfelfe inferres (7oh. 14. 19.) Becaufe /live, ye Jhall livealfo. The life ofSaints is not in their private bands, but in Chrift their publiquehead. And feeing theSpirit bath taught us to fay, that He is our life, we may fay ( with holy reverence, and inan humble dependance upon him) that our life is atfafe as His. Vu2 From
