Vert 26i own fnbflance ; make my bodie Tooke like the grave, make it fo like thy felfe, the earth , that no man candiftingnifh me from the earth, yet this doth not at all weaker my faith in be- lieving that I í%a11 rife from the dead. Put all there difadvan.- tags upon it, yet the pt of God tnì seers, or rather tram- ples upon them a!l..The faith ofAbraham (Rom. 4. /8, i9, 20.) moved much after this rr t or in fuch a fpheare of holy bight and flrength in reference to the promife of a Son ; That a Son fhould be borne to Abraham, was like the rayfing of one from the dead.. So the Author to the Hebrewes (peaks exprefly (Htb.i i. 17. io By faithAbrahamwhen he was treed r, ffered up I,'aac and he that bad received the promifeofered up hisonely begot- ten Son accounting that God was able to rayfe himup even from the dead, fromwhence alfohe received him in afigure. See howAbra, hams faith aged about the receiving of Ifaac in his old age, (when his°body was (in reafon) more fit togoe to the grave, then to beget a fon) like ?Ws for the receiving of his dead body out of the grave. He ( faith the Apoftle, Rem. 4. i8. ) againfi hope, believed in hope. Every thing flood in the way of this hope, that he fhould have a fon, yet he believed that hefiould become thefatherofmanyNations, according to that which was writ- ten, fo (ball thy feed be Andbeing not wea4e infaith,, he confidered not his ownefoodic, now dead,( that is, decayedwith.age); when he wasan hundredyeares old, nor the deadneffe ofSara's womb.. This probably was the figure ofwhich the Author to the Hebrewes writes, whenhe affirmes, that i..lbrabamwas willing at the com- mand ofGod to offer his fpn to death, from whence ( by the promife of God ) he had received him in a figure. There were two deaths, a double death to hinder Abraham from having a fon, and yet his faith lived and prevailed over both. He flag_ gerednot at the promife of God through unbeliefe, but wad, lrong in faith, givingglory to God. Andbeingfully perfwaded, that what he hadpromifedhe road able alfo to performe.Faith lookjng to the power of (Cod, triumphs over our owne weakneffe. Now as Abrahams faith triumphed over thofe two deaths, or decayes and declenfions ofhis ovine and his wives bodie, believing firongly that tho- rough thefe two figurative deaths, Godwould rayfe him a fon. So faith triumphs over, and breakes all thofe bands, by which death may feeme to hold the body in the grave beyond all hope ofriling., . ,,. :s e:
