This is the leffon that faith is taught here, to looke toChrift, and to none other; and fo to God, and tonone other (Pfa1.73.2$. ) David (dr Afaph) proféffeth that fuch was his faith : he (peaks as high of his faith here , as he could ofhis vifion in heaven;Whomhave I in heaven but thee ? andwhombave I in earth that I de /ire betides thee ? Davids faith beheld God,and none other, in heaven, and comparatively to God , he valued none upon this earth. I have none in heaven, neither Saint nor Angel, I have neither Abraham, Ifaac, nor 7,164, to rejoyce in; andupon earth I have none , neither wife nor childe, neither friend nor fervant,that I look to,or rejoyce in,iñ any the loft de- gree with God; Whomhave Iupon earth that 1defire beides thee ? David was a man defervedly defired by many, and he had doubt- leffe duely bounded defires to many on earth, yet his defireof God had filch a holy exceflivenes in ir, that he might fay, Idefire none but him. This is the bufineffe of faith to draw the foule purely to God. Saints are invited ('Pfal. 48. 12, 13, 14.) to walke about Sion, as if we were to make it our happireffe to behold her ftrength and beauty;Walkabout Zion,goe roundabout her,tell her Towers, merkher Bulwarkj, confider her pallaces,t hat you may tell it to the Generations following. We are to bulle our (elves, to imploy both fence andunderftanding upon Zion, upon her Towers, and Bulwarks, upon her Pallaces and walls, not as if the Saints fhould be taken up meerly in the admiration of the beau tie, andglory of Zions ordinances and priviledges. The Taft verfe tells us, we mull not flay inZions Bulwarks and Pallaces, while it concludes thus : For this god is our God for ever andever, he /hall be our guide even unto death. He faith not, It is this Zion, thefe ftrong walls &Bulwarks, thefe goodly pallaces,which I call you to lookon as your joy and happines:No, this God, theGod tfZianyou are chiefely to look on, and he is your chiefefl hap- pineffe : unleffe you fee God in Zions Bulwarks, and walls, and pallaces,it is n, t worth your fight. This God is our God.
