Chap. 19 . An Expofition upon the Bookeof J OB. Verf. 27. on, reading it thus;( know that he(hall rife againe in the confelati- en. What ftrong confolation did the believers of thole ages draw from their affurance ofa Refurrec`tion, feeing Refurreti- on & confolation were terrñes equivalent? When this was but railed, the other was underttood ; we havenow the firft fruits of confolation, but our harveítWill not be, till our dead bodies which the Apoftle compares to feed fown fpring out of the earth againe. I might further Phew, that the refurreetion is not onely the confolation ofSaints, but the confolation of the whole crea- tion : theApoí1ie fpeaks of it under that notion ( Rom. 8. t 9. 22.)For the earneft expetlation ofthe creature waitethfor themani- feftatien of thefont of god. And againe, The whole creation ( not onely living but fenceleffe creatures, there muff be taken into make up the whole creation)groaneth, and travelleth inpain un- till now. But what would the creature have? it waiteth for the manifoftatien ofthe foes of God,andto be deliveredfrom the bondage ofcorruption into the glorious liberty ofthe children of God. We are now thefont of god (faith the Apoítle Pon z Ep.3 2. )and it doth not yet appeare what wefhall be. Bost we know, that when he Add appeare, we'hall be like him : at the appearance ofChrift, theSon of Godbynature, his Adopted font Ohall appeare what they are, therewill be a glorious manifeftatfon ofthem when Chrift fhall appeare in glory. This glory ( which will be compleat at the refurrec4ion) the whole creation now groaning waiteth for, being fubjeéted under hope to participate ( each creature according to its capacitie ) in the glory of it. Now if all crea- tures are fuftained by this hope, much more man, who is chiefe- ly concerned in it. lob is a great example of it, who upon his forrowfull and ficke bed rayfed his foule into confolation, by thoughts of the refurre&ion . His friends preffed him with hopes and promifesof a temporal! refurrec`tion , if he did re- pent; but he difclaimed the hope offuch a refurrec`tion, or was not much affe ted with it, he little minded a refurreâion to- temporal! glory ; but he had anaffurance of that which ferved his turne a thoufand times better, making him even then, ifnot joyful!, yet patient under all his tribulations. I (hall\fee Cod for myfelfe, and not another, thougbmy reine:be confumed within me. 74 399
