Chap. 20. An Expofitionupon the $ookofJ O B. Verf, 5. forrow corneth c A hypocrite cannot be as forrowing, yet al- wayes rejoycing he cannot (as Paul fayth Rom. 5 3.) Rejoice in tribulation, becaufe lie-is not indeed united unto Chrifi, the true /row, or laughter ofhis people, the fountaineof -their joy. The hypocrites forrow will laic for ever, but all his ¡oyes are onely a moment. Lafily, Confider the oppofite {late which Zophar wouldhave job take notice of. The triumphingofthe wicked isfhort, and the joyofthe hjpocrite to butfor amoment. Hence it follows that there are force whole triumphing and whole ¡ayes are permanent and fiable; The triumphing of the godly is for ever, and the joyofthe fincere {hail continue to everlafting. The joyoftheSaints here is everlafting in the na- ture ofit, though not in theac4ings of it, 'cis everlafting, as everlafting is oppofed to a period, though not as toa paufe. Their joy dyeth not in this world, though fometimes it be licke, and languifh. Some Saints have had their joy abiding in ilrength, when themfelves were weake, and their joy not onely alive but lively as long as they lived, they have been carried to the grave in the imbraces of Chrifi, and in the fmiles ofdivine love. And as the moment of this life hath been a kinde ofeter- nitie of joy to them ; foeternitie {hall be to them but as a mo. ment ofjoy, and yet everymoment fhall have (as it were) an eternity in ir. Saints fhall rejoyce for ever, yet their joy fhall be alwayes as frefh and greene as ifnew begun ; as there ihali'be no removingof this joy, fono abatement oftheir fweetnes in the enjoyment of it, [:.n Yf 05iy 457
