Therefore God puts this word into theProphets mouth (Ifa. 3.) Say to the righteoua,It !hall be well with him, fay to the wicked, It Jhall be i11 with him ; tell him, evil (hall be his portion, tell him frommet fhall be fo.The wrath ofGod id revea- led from heaven, againfi all unrighteaufneffe; T ,bulation and an- guifh upon every fouleofman that deth evil ; That is, one every iòule that lives and dyes doing that which is evil. But here a Qenion arifeth ; is it thus withall wicked men ? How are we to underhand this propofition ; This is the portion ofa wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed him by god? Doe not wicked men divide the good the :heft things of this world among them ? Is not pleafure their portion, and riches their heritage? Doe not the tabernacles ofrobbers prom fper ? as lob Paid, Chap. 12. Have not they thefateft fhare, and the faireft lot in this life? How then doth Zophar ( fpeaking of temporali judgements and troubles) fay ; This is the portionof awicked man fromGod ? `When we daily feewicked men, not a few, injoying a pleafant portion. Doe not the difpenfations of 'God vary from his threatningsand comminations ? or how (hall we reconcile this prepofition with our experiences? I anfwer, Though God gives wicked men many portions of outward good things in this world, yet that doth not abate, much leffecroffe andcontradi &,this commination. God gives fome wicked men a great portion in good things ofthis lifeup- on many accounts, yet the event is not good to themupon any .account. Firn, God gives them a portion as theyare hiscreatures, how fhould they live, and fubfift elfe ? Godmaintaines all that he bathmade, he is the great houfholder. Under that relation of creatures they havealwayes fomewhat in the world, and under another relation they mayhave very much, For Secondly,Some wicked men are in the relation, ofhis fervant Andwe may call the good which theyhave in the world, their wages or a reward for force good fervice they have done in the world. The purpofesofGod are fulfilled, andhis providences fern ved, even: by wicked men, & forme wicked men do himeminent fervice,
