Chap. 2I. %Arn Expo itian neon the Rookof J o a. Veri, 5. 641 We neither mark the words, nor theworks of God as we ought. Ifmen take it ill when they are not marked, how ill may the great God of heaven tyke it ? Secondly, Yob's friends had cenfured and judgcdhim, but they had not markt him. Hence note; Some are more forward to cenfure then to confider. They give judgements before theyheave, and paffefentence before they mark; common reafon bids us marke before we juige, and confider before we give our opinioneyther about the a&ions ofothersor their doctrines. The Apottles rule and counfel leads us to this (a Thef.S,21.) Prove allthings, holdfaft that which isgood. The rule holdsalfo,Prove all things, and then reje$ that which is evil!.'Tis not praife worthy to hold that which is good, till we have proved it fo, norcan we be excufed in rejecting that as evil! which is evils, till we have proved it to be fo. Thirdly, While lob faith, Mark me, and be aftonied, He feemes to intimate thus much to his friends ; Hitherto ye have neglefted me and my fufferings, but did yemarkme, ye would beaftoiaied : He fpeakes not imparatively,as commanding their attention ; but optatively, defining them tomark him and fheweth what would follow, Markme, and (certainly ) ye will be atonined, Hence note ; The reafon why we are littleaffetled withgreat thing', is becaufe we doe not enough confider andmarksthem. That which fcarcely moveth us would aftonifhus, that which is [mall inour eyes andef}imations, would be great if we did but weigh it. Did we thorowly confider what fin iss many would tremble, who nowmakea fport ofit, The mercy ofGod, theunfpeakeable love of jefus Chrift, are little valued and prized by many, becaufe they enter not into a due confide- rationof them, they take nopaines toknow what Redempti- on, Juftification, andSalvation meane, and therefore ( as the Apoftle fpeaks, Heb. 2. 3.) they neglefl fogreat falvation. The Apoftle Peter writing ofthe thingsof the Gofpel (1 Pet. r.lo.)
