Chap. zz. do Expofttion upon the Book, of JOB. Verf.2z. 227 affections, lay up the word in thine heart, that is,let thy affections be warm'd with it, while thy memory retainsand keepes it and thyunderftanding is enlightned with a true notion of it Hence Obferve. Firft, The wordofGod isaprecious thing. We doe not layup trifles and trafb, but precious things, and treafure ; we lay upour Plate and Jewel's, ourGold and Silver ; the word of God fhould be moretous than thoufands of gold andGlover, it is the molt precious Jewell,'tis treafure, and there- fore it muff be laid up. Secondly, The heart le the Arke or Cabinet, in which the word muff be laidup. There was an Arke or Cheft provided for the law (Exod. z5. it ) a,nd that Arke was Chrift, he was typified by it, and indeed the law would be too hot for our hearts, too hot to lye there ifit had not fi ft layn in the heart of Chrift we ( fince fallen) could never have been an Arke fork, ifhehad not been. The tables of the law were laid in the Arke, and the Arke ,(in which the law was put) had a mercy. fate which did cover it all over (The di- menfionsof the Arkeand of the mercyfeate were exa&ly the fame, twocubits and a halfein length, anda cubit and a halfe it breadth, (Exod. 2,5.1o.17.) fo chat nothing ofthe law couldap peace or rifeup in Judgement againft poore finners. The propî. tiatory or mercy$egte covered all. Now as Chrift bath been the Ark of the law to protect and cover us from the condemning powerof it ; fo thehearts ofbeleevers muff be the Arke of the law, whereit muff be laid up with a readineffe ofminde to yeeld our felves up to the commanding powerof it.David prophesying ofChrift faith (Pfal. 4o. to.) have not bid thy righteoaaneffe within myheart, yet he had laidbefore,/ delight to do thy will, thy tarn la wir*in my heart. Toclear whichScripture take notice that there is a twofold hidingof the righteoufnetle or word ofGod in the heart. Firer, fo as toobfcure or conceale it from others, in that fence David faith,/ have not hid thy righteoufnefe in mine heart, Ihave declared thyfaithfulneffe and thy falvation, and not concealed thy loving k¿indnefe and truthfrom the great Congregati. on. And thus no manought to lay up the truths, the law,rhe pro- miles ofGod in his heart to corcealeand flifie them there. Sew Ggz cond-
