Chapa 23. J Verf. Io. 375` laid ; But we are made manifeff unto god (zCor. 5. t I ) That's the thingthat pleafeth us, David (I Chron. 29. 17.) (pokes % in the fame frameof fpirituall contentment; I know alfo ô my God that th,u tryef myheart, and loaf ple.efure in uprightres; This was a plealure to David, this was his Joy and crowne of Re;oycing, that God knew him ; and agodly man bathmuch Caufeofrejoy- cing in this, that Godknowes him perfectly, confidering how much he is mistakenand mifundertlood by men. When our wayes are mistaken bymen, 'cis great content to remember, that God knowes the way that we take without the leali mistake. For this affures a godly manof three things. First, That God will reckon his waves finch as they are, and him filch a one as he is. He is much affured that God.will never put a falle glofTe, or an unjust conftrut;ion ( which men are apt to doe). upon the text ofhis life. Secondly, This affures him that his works of righteoufneffe fhall not want a reward; for god it not u righteoaa to forget oar worke and labour of love (Heb. 6. to.) chat is, he will not lit us goe without a reward for fuch workes; for as then we are raid not to forget the wordof God whenwe obey it ; fo God is laid. not to forget our works when he doch reward them, Thirdly, This affures him that God will give teftimony to his integrity, and beare his witnes (when mob feafonable)to hisrigh- teousworks.Though menwill not give himTeilimony, yet God whoknowes his wages will; God will not doe leffe foragood man then a good Confcience will. For as an evil!Confcience will accule, fo a good Confcience will excufe ( Rom. z. 15.) Their Confciences in the mane time accufing or excufing one another.. Confcience knowes our wayes, and therefore Conscience gives Teftimony againft them that doe evils, and Confciencewill give Teftimony with thofethat doe well ; let all the world clamour againft them, Confcience will not, becaufe Confcience knows the way that a man takes.Much more then will God. Tetlifie for that man whole way is good ; and how fweet is this ! 'Tis fweet and fatisfying to a gracious foule todoe good, but when God hìmfelf (hall tettifie fora gracious foule, that he bath done good, this is much more Tweet and fatisfying. (1 `john 3. io, 21.) If our heart (or Confcience) condemns us, be is greater then our heart ( or Con - Jcience) andknowetb all things. Beloved, ifour heart condemnesu rot',
