Chap. 23. von Expoftion upon the Book of j OB. Vert: 13. q. t JOB, CHAP. 23. Verf. 13. Bitt he is in one mind, andwho can turne hint z and what his foule defreth, even that he cloth. N this verfe,7o6 isconceived by forne,at once making difcove- lry ofhis own infirmitie, and of the foveraignty of God ; But . though all agree that they carry a full difcoveryof the foveraign ty ofGod, yet manyare fo (arre fromudging them a difcovery of7obr infrmitie, that they rather difcover the ftrength and bight of his Grace and tolines. To cleare the whole matter. we may take notice, That there are three apprebenfions about the (cope and fence of there words. Firft, As if in them fob rendred a reafonof what he fpake in theverfe immediately foregoing, here giving an account, why he had kept fo alofe toGod, and to his wayes ;Myfoot hash held his ffeps, his way have I kept, and not declined, neither have Igone back. from the commandementsofhis lips, &c. And why all this ? f1.r he if ofone minde. That is, God will havehis way, there's no refifi- ing, his commandements mutt be Wei ved; that which he once made a law, and rule for me to walke by, continueth fo Rill: He is ofone mind. Therefore I. muff keep dole to his minde. It were a vaine thing, for me to turne any other way, whenGod holds the fame way. It were folly for me to change my practice, when I find no change at all in his precepts : they being {till one and the fame in themfelves, andhaving the fame obligation uponme. Secondly, Thefe words may give an account,or a reafon ofhis, afflictions ; As ifhe had thus expreffed himfelfe ;Though my con fcience beareth me witnejfe, that I have not gone on in any fuck fsnfull way, as ye taxe me with, nor defiled myfelfe withfilch greffe iniquities ar uIuallydraw down the vifible yudgements cf you up- on men; Yet I finde godgoing onhill to affliti mr, he keeps his rid upon my backe, and leuburden upon myf.ioulderr, hís terrors f ill in- camp about me, andhis arrowes drinke up my fpirit.2or will he be moved by any entreaty of mine to withdraw his hanq'from me, what ever pleafeth him, he willdoe, how unpleafant foever it is to me. And what's the reafonofall this? He is in enemind : God is naltcs.
