We (by reafon ofour indiligence) fee but little of any ofhis wo.kes, and fomeofhis workes are fuch,as we can fee but a little way into them with all our diligence. Secondly, The works ofGod are fo full ofrighteoufnefle,that no man can juftly reprove, or fi.,de fault with them. They who come with the moil curious & critical eyes to examine the works _ofGod, (hall not finde any flaw or defect in them. There, have been many, who (through their prefumptuous folly) have found fault with the workes ofGod,but therewas never any (whowith his moil refined wit) could finde a fault in them. The ewes of old complained of,and quarrel'd at the wages ofGod as unequal (Ez.'k. 18. 25.) but when it came to tryail, they could prove noshing but the inequality ofeheir owne. The workes of the flrongell men may flicke in the birth for want of ftrength to bring them forth. But the workes ofGod never fticke in the birth upon that or any other account. He is in one minde, andwho can turne him? There are foue wayes by which men are ufually turned offfrom or flopped in their worker, but by none *fawn will God be turned, w:aen he bath a minde to worke. Firft, Men are often flopt by outward power ; they doe not either that good or that evill which they would, becaufe- they cannot, and their cannot, poffibly, doth not lie in chi,, that they have not a power in themfelves proportionable to the worke, or becaufe they havemedled with a.matter too great for them, and for which they are no match ; but they thereforeonly cannot do what they would,becaufe theyarehindred from.doing it.
