AS.o Chap. 24. An Pxpojtion upon the Book of J o B. Versa. Hese ?of; bath found out fomewhat knowable, which they who know God, doe not.alwayes know; and that is as bath beets (hewed, the feafonof his judgments. Hence Note. Firft, Thejudgmentsof Godare often either deferred, carriedfo deftly, andftcretly, that the w:/e í`l andholyeJi men cannot al- wayes discern or fee them. The judgements of God areoften deferred in this life, and they are very often corcealed, though presently executed. That is not alwayes true which Eliph t. afferted ( (hap. 22. 19 ) The righteous fee it and areglad, the innocent laugh them tofcarn. The righteous fomtimes fce the udgrnents ofGod uponwicked men, and his care watching over themfelves, but they doenot always feeeither ; for as a wicked man may doe evil an hundred times, that is, very often, and goe ttnpurifhed, as is intimated ( i 2. )So awicked man may be punished anhundred times, and yet slot oneof his puhifhrnents feene. Some udgments of God are peat and fore, which yet fall not under the ohfervationofthe bet, ofthe wifeft, of the holieft in the world; They that knowhim, doe not fee his dayes,God (for terror and warning to others) Both judgement uponTome openly (Deut.7. 9,1o. ) ICvow therefore the Lord thyGod, he si god, thefaithfull rod, who keepeth covenant andmercy with them that love bim, andkeep hie commandements to a thousand generations, and repajeth them that hate him, to their face to defire, them ; Hewill not beflackto him that bateth him, he millrepay him to hisface. Here are two things in this Text concer- ning the judgments of God ; That they (hall come, firff, fuddeply; fecondly, openly ; they (hall come fuddenly,çodwill not beflack, they (hall come openly, Clod will repay them to theirface; as they finned openly, fo they ¡hall be punished openly. ThusGod re- payd theSodomites, he pavd them ro their face;fo he repayd Pha- roah, and fo the rebelling7eres;and he was not flack, ( for as the Pfalmift faith) while thenotate waniin their mouth, the wrath' of Godfell upon them. Thus 'cis lometimes : yet judgments areoften deferred, and hidden. What the Apoftle fpeakes (Rom. g 2,2.)is applicablehere ; God willing to thew bra wrath, andmake bis power known, indeored withmuch lorg fiefering the veffells ofwrathfitted fer delramtlian ; there are veffells ofwrath fitted for defttudion, thrown tohell, not onely toa temporal], but to an eternall de- ftruâion,
