`uf hap. 24. An Expofitiolupon the Book cf JOB. Vert 2: fwer, it may beunderítood ofall forts of bounds, of the bounds of lawes,of the bounds ofliberty,of the bounds ofreligion,as allo of the bounds of lands. It is wickednefs tomedie with or remove anyof thele bounds, though to remove Tome ofthem be a greater wickcdneffe. To remove the bounds ofthe laws, and the liberties of a Nanon, efpecially to remove the bounds ofreligion, are hai- nows abominations; and though to remove the bound ofLands, be not fobad as there, yet that allo may benumbred among the abóminations which both God and man hate ",& therefore when the Prophet would in one word fpeak all the abominable pra&i- ces of the Princes of7udah, he chofe to fay , they are like thole who remove the bound ; implying, that nothingcould be Paid of them werfe then that. The fame Prophet ufeth an expreffion fomewhat paralel to that (Hojea4.4.) where defcribiog the wickedneffe of thofe times, he tells chem, that the Lordhad a con- trovert; with the land,becats/e there was nocruth,no mercy,no know- ledge of God in the land, b) fwearing, and lying, and killing, andflea= ling, &c. then at the 4. verfe he concludes, Let no manfiriveand reprove another. ('Tis the foareft judgement of God upon a people or a perfon to let them alone and bequiet in their finne,to fay, Let no manflrive, and reproveanother)but whydid Godgive up that people to fuch a judgement ? Thegreatneffe oftheir fin was the caufe of it ; And what was that ? the next words Phew us ; For thy people are as they that(rivewith the Prief. It was fo great a wickedneffe to contendorfizrive with thePriefi, that the vileft ofwickedneffes was but an exemplification of it. God for- bids that they ftaould be reprovedor ftriven with for good, who were orce grown fo evil) as to ftrive with the Prieft ; and the . greateft reproofe that can poffibly be given any man, is to fay, let no man reprove him. Thus we fee that toftrive with the Prieff, and taremove the bound, are fins ofthe farft magnitude, the one in Spiritualls, the other in Civills. Fourthly, In as much as tke word here nfed fignifes not only suite to remove, but to touch or medie with the Land-marks,. Obferve. That we ought toavoid all thole aIle, that are leading tofn, ee wellat thefin itfelfe. It was not abfolutely a finne, ora finne in it feife, to touch or come
