That the love of money (which is covetoufnefe) it the route ofall evill, that is,any evil of f;nne may grow up from that roote ; and therefore the Apostle adds in the fame place, That, while fume have coveted it;ehey have erred from thefairk. Covetoufneflé is the roote of here:e, lehith we may think farre removed from it. But (faith he) fuch have erred from the faith;which may be underí}ood oferring from the faith, both in regard of praetiçe,andofdoarine They have both ailed and beleeved against the rule offaith for filthy lucre ; and fohave peirced them (elves throughwith many forrows. Cove toufneffe runneth us into all evil!, and provokes many to do fuch things as peirce themfelves through withmany forrows as well as others. Covetoufneffe peirceth the poor and needy, the widdow and the fatherleffe with many forrows, nor doth is (pare its own IN/Lifter, or llave rather; but peirceth him likewife through with many more and much worfe forrows. Verf. ao. They caufe him togee naked without cloathing. The 7th verfe fpake the fenceof this ; They caufe thenaked to lodge without cloathing, and they have no covering in the colei. yob coucheth upon their cruelty againe and againe. They caste him to gee naked without clóathing. They will not allow him fo much as thole things which are for neceflì.ty,. The word him, is not expreffely in the Hebrew, which runs only thus Theycaufe to geenaked wirheut cloathing ; as implying, that they were ready to exercife this inhumanity upon anyone that came next tohand or flood in their way. Our Tranflation feemes to referre it to thofe poor taken for a pledge, and fo the difference between this loth and the 7th verfe is this ; in the 7th verfe he fpake generally ofthe Poore, whom they made to goe naked ; here at the 16. verfe he fpeaks of thole whom they had taken to be their naves, and fervants ; they take thepoor for a pledge, and catore him to goe naked without cloaking; they take his worke, but they give him no cloathing, they command his labour ,, but deny him reliefe. Which fenfe is carried further, both in the next verfe, and in the Qext clau;fe of this verte.
