Confcience is Gods deputy in man, and what that (be- ing rightly enformed) doth in man. God will doe too. We are fo affured by the Apoftle Iohn (t yohn 3 zr.) Ifour heart con. demise ses,God isgreater then our heart, and knower al! things:; As jibehad faid,tbis isan argument that there is a God to condemn, becaufe the heart condemns ; For Clod is greater then the heart. God is the fupreame Judge, the infallible Judge, the heart is but anunder officer unto him. Why fhould the heart ofa man (mite him ? why fhould he be troubled when hebathdone evill ? why fhould he be fo troubled to be teen in doing evil' ? were it not that there is a God , who judgeth both the hearts and wayes of men;While thefade faith in his heart there is noGod,(Pfal.14.1.) the heart ofa foole faith there is a God: while he faith in his heart there is noGod to fee my fin, his heart faith to him, cover thy fin, that it maynot be feene , and what Englifh canwe make of this Paying ofhis heart, but this, there is a God. Secondly, Obferve. Sin befools thefanner, orfingers are very foolifh. They areglad if they can efcape theeye ofman, whenas their fins are alwayes under theeye ofGod. What is the eye from Which darkeneffe can hide us, to that eye which feeth through darkener ?
