The Ptalmift faith of wicked worldlymen (Pfal.4.9. 14.) For the Pfalmift fpeaks here ofdeath as it were triumphing over the wic- ked, whereas the Godly triumphover death. For, fir ft he faith, The wickedare laya' in thegrave like fheep;They lived like Wclvea or Lyonr,but they are layd in the grave like fh_epe. If it be asked, why like fheepe ? I anfwer not for the innocency of their líves,but for their impotency in death; as if it had been faid,when once death took them in hand to lay them in the grave,theycould make no more refiftance then a fheepe can againft a Lion or a Wolfe; And when death bath thus laid them in the grave, then fecondly ( faith the Pfalmift ) death fhallfeedon them, as a Lyon Both upon a fheepe, or anywild beaft uponhis prey , which is a further degree ofdeaths triumph over the wicked ; And thirdly, their beauty fhall confteme in thegrave, that is, all their bodily and aaturall beauty (and that is all the beauty which they have) (hall confume in the Grave, whereas the Godly, have a beauty ( and they count it their only beauty) which the grave cannot con. fume, and that is the beautyof their graces, the batty ofholy- a+effe,the fpirituzll beauty of the inner man, yea and the fpirituall beauty mwe
