686 Chap. 25. An E'xpofition upon the Boob of J o a. Verf.z. are in his high places of power and authority, the Lord maketh peace, and this is a very glorious worke of God. Thus we fee there are many high places, and they are all the high places of God ; yet I conceive that Bildad chiefly if not onelyaymes at Heaven, which is more p culiarly the high place ofGod ; as being that towhich ( though many lay claime to the high places of the earth) none betides God ever did make claime or lay title. Further, Befides there different apprehenfions about the high places, there is a difference in the reading ofahewords together; tome thus ; Heworketh inpease in hie high places ; That is, what troubles foever are here on earth, there is peace and q zietnefte in heaven, or there God worketh in peace and quietneff. Ochers, thus ; The Dominion andfear wbrch are withhim make peace in bia high places ; As if the dominion and power ofGod were r at to which peace" making is a(cribedasancffct. Or as jibe had faid, Godbath authority enough to compoteall df ferences, yea he to orders things in heaven that therearifetbnodifference in thofe kigh places, his dominion andfearekeepe all in peace. There are no murmur- ings nor difcontents, much lette any rebellions or open warres in heaven. Mr.Broughton reports the Chaldee tranflation in a phrsfe very urcouth in our language Sultan/bipandfeare he with him, (f .me Eaftern Princes arc called Sultans) He maketh peace inhu igh heavens. To which he adds the Expofìtion or glotte of the Ch 1- dee para_phrafe ; Michael is on his right band ; and he isof fi"-e; Gabriel is on hit left hand; andhe is ofwater and the heavenly creatures be part cffire and part of water. But Mr Br. ught:n gives a good corrective, fachFablesSt 'Paulforbiddeth. To conclude, though it be difficult which of the high places befo: a-named are here meant;yet it is a truth that all high places arehis 1iigh places, and that in what high place foever peace is made, God maketh it. Hemakethpeace inhis highplaces. Hence obferve. Peacemaking is the wirke of god. And as Godmakes peace every where, fohe makes every kind of peace. We find peace fpoken of in Scripture in a five-fold op- pofition ; andGod the maker ofthat five-fold peace. Firfi,
