Chap,25. An Expotion upon the Book of JOB. Verl. 3. 693 taught. An Army is an ordered company`; all the creatures are in order by nature , and when God calls they are in order as it were by Art. Thirdly , They are his Arrnyes, becaùfe as God bath a power to command them, fo they are ready to obey him ; They (as the Centurion in the Gofpel fayd of his Souldiers) goe when God fayth goe. they come, when he fayth comc, and ifhe bid them doe this or that they doe it. Souldiers mull neyther refufe nor difpute the commands of their General. Themolt violent and boyfterou s creatures are obedient to the call of God ; iormy winds andeton- prf s fullfi1 his word ( P;al. t 48.8.) He fpeakes to the lightnings; and they fay, heere arewee (Job 38 35 ) The very thunder which feemes to be all voyce, is all ease at the voyce of God. The An- gels are fo ready to goe, that they are fayd to fly,and their read i- nes to doe the will ofGod in heaven, is raade the patterne afoot doing it here onearth. The Scripture fpeakes often of them as of an army employed in warren, eyther to defiroy the wicked, or to be a guard to the peopleof God. We have an illuftrious example of the latter in ?acobs care ( Gen. 3 2. 2. ) And when 7 ecoh (arc, them , he fayd , this is gods boll : and bee called the name ,f that place a ilcbanai,,, that is, two h As or companies, A°KI it might be fo calied, becaufe 74c,bs company or little boll, and that company ofAngels who were Gods hoft fent out to convoy him in fafety, did both encampe upon the fame ground or rather becaufe the_ Angels divided thernfelves into two companyes,The one encamp- ing and marching before him as his Vantguard, the other behind hiîat or in his Reere; That fo he might fee himfelfe every way pro- tetied , and might be filled with a full affurance of fafety. That God bath Inch numerous ilirmyes alwayes at hand and uncles 7command, is Firft A very comfortablebe^rirg to all that love and fare God. The Apoftle fayth (Kin: 8 31.) If gj0d befor su, who can be againft ass ? that is, nonecan. Though many be againft us op- pofingly, yet none can be againft us prevaylingly. We may fay al- fo if the Lord be for us, who will not be lot us ? If God be our helper, we cannot want helpers, not onely becaufe the he4e of God is enough without any more, butbecaufe,if hebe our helper we frill have many more. Whenwe fee our felves utterly defti- tute ofall helpes and helpers, yet God bath an army of helpers,
