696 Chap. 25. An e'xpofcion upon the Bool`ofJ O B. Verf. 3, traveller were unwilling to rife in a morning and renew hisJour- ney, or long Rage about the world, till called up by God, and commandedout for the fervice of mankinde;ofSunlight we may fay, 'Upon whom doth not hid light arife ? Secondly This light may be taken more ftridly for the light ofdivine goodneffe. All the good, the peace, the comfoar, which wee injoy in the world,is comprehended under the name of light. When the Pfalmift fayth , Light ie f aven for the righteotas, his meaning is,goodor comfort is[ovenfor the rigbteeatr,(Pfsl.97 Y a.) and, Vpsnwhom doth not tbit light arife ? The goodrefle ofGod extends it kite over all. God doch good co all , though he doch more good foe tome ; for as God would have us to doe good to all, but fpecially to the houfholdof faith, fo doch he. Hee fends forth fo much light ofgoodneffe as will make all men eternally inexcufable who abufe it, but he fends forth fo much light of his goodneffe to forne as will make them eternally happy. The light of his goodneffe rifeth upon good raen to caufe them to reoyce and live comfortably ; And unleffe force light ofhis goodnes did arife upon evill men, even upon the worft ofmen, they could not fubftft, nor live at all. His light is the life ofman, and tspan, wham oink, not this light of divinegeodnefe arife ? Thirdly , Wee may expound this light of the light of divine wifdome, which difpofeth andordereth all things ; And dothnot this light arifeupon the whole creation ? doth not this light thine upon every creature ? doth not this light dire& thewages ofmart on earth?yea doth not this light arifeupon the Angels in heaven, todirect them in all their wayes ? Fourthly, Wee may underhand this light of the light of that knowledge by which God himfeife knowech all things. As God is lighi offentially, or as all that he is, is light,fo we may fay more efpecially ofhis knowledge, it is light. Knowledge is the light of man, and thereforewe fay ofan ignorant or unknowing man that he is in darknes ; and thus alto knowledge is the light ofGod ; and when the Apeftle?obn faith (t F"p;f#: i. ) That in him is no dark,es at a4, his meaning is, in him is no ignorance at all. God fends forth this light ofhis knowledgeall the world over,he takes notice ofall As nothing is hid (in a common fence) from the heave or light of the Sunne in its walke about the world, fo no- thing is hid in,any, the fttifteEt fence from the knowledgeofGod.
