God dash not command us to obey him blindfold, or not revealing in what he would be obeyed. We read (1k/ic. 6. 6.) of a great enquiry made of old what to doe, wherewith (hall 1come before the Lord ? and bow my felf be. fore the high God ? Will the Lord be pleafed with thou/andsof Rams? &c. Shall I do this ? or (hail I doe that ' The anfwer is given ro thefe Qieries (y. 8. ) He bath (hewed thee, O man what is good; And what dotb the Lord require of thee, but to doe jaflly,and love mercy -, and to walk humbly with thy Gad? Let none faywhere is thiswifdom to be found ? and whore is theplace ofthis underfland- ing?It is plainbefore thee,Oman, God hach (hewed thee where thy duty lyeth ; thou needfl not Hand grooping after or guefing at ir. Secondly, As God bath revealed to us the way of duty, how we ought to live and order our converfation ; fo the wayof life, and how we may attain falvation. Hehash revealed Chrili plen- tifully ; and all believers have received an unElion, whereby they know all things (t John 2. 20. ) That is,,all thole things, which either not to know, were there fin, or the not knowing of which would leave them in their fns. They have the anoynting or teach- ingof the Spirit , to lead them into all thefe truches. Therefore do not fay , God bath Rraitned you, in any neceffary peice of knowledge and fpiricual wifdom, teeing the knowledge of all that wifdome is let before your eyes, which concernes either the theduty,o; the comfort, the prefent converfation, or future fal- vation of man. The way by which we lhould go ro heaven (J,fus Ch;ifi) is plain ; though many of chore wayes wherein God go- eth among us on earth are hidden and (hut up. Wherefore as Tau/ at once advifeth and dehorteth (Rom. r o.6, 7.) Say not in thineheart, who (ball afcend into heaven ? (that is, to bring Chrift down from above) or who fhall defcend into the deep ?
