The text is, rYe beard the hearing of it ; The ack of hearing is by a figure put for the word or waiter heard. As (Rom. ro. i6.) ' Faith comes by hearing (that is, thegrace of faith is wroughtby the Spirit in the a& of hearing) and, Hearingby the word of God, that is, the matter heard, both by which and in which this faith is wrought, is thewordof God. We have the like manner of fpeak- rng(Ob. t. r.) we bave beard a bearing,or (as we render) aru- mourfrom the Lord, &c. Againe, When we fay, deftruïtton anddeath, have heardthe fame thereof. Theword fame, may be taken two wayes. Firth, for anhonourable report; fo fame commonly Ggnifies, and famous men are honourable men. Secondly, Fame implies nomore then a dubious or uncertain report. Thus whena man hearethonly force peice of news, or an imperfe& account of a matter, he may be laid es bear slamsofit. In the firti fence there is a great truth ; The workings of God with the children of men are very famous, there is an honourable report made of them in the world,and (hall be to the endof the world.(Pfal.44.
