Agur ( which text was toucht upon in the former part of this eerie) puts the queffion about them both, while hewas ma- king an humble conetfìon of his faith (Prow go. q., ) Who barb gathered the wind in his Nis ? Who bathbound the waters in agar- menr ?Hue are windesand waters, the former gathered,the latter bound to obedience. The word and power of the Lord, or his powerful word and decree, are the flits intowhich the wind is gathered, and the garment inwhich the waters are bound. The Prophet puts a paralel queflion, and to the fame purpofe,(1 a.4o: iz.) Who bath meafured the maters in the hollow of his hand ?: When he enquired , who ? he did not at all doubt, who ? His very queflion is adetermination that nocreature but God alone bathdone ir. And to Phew the Lords foveraignry over the waters David faith in a dire& affirmation (P1al. 29.1o.) The Lord 'it'd* upon the floud yea the LordfttetbKing for ever. Thisflood upon which tha Lord fietethmay be underfiood two wayes ; and fo alto may his fitting upon it ; The Floud upon which theLord fitteths, may be underflood, Firfl, Plainly and properly for the inundationand confluence of many waters which make a floud. The Lord fits upon this flood , not'only when 'cis calm and quiet, but when it fwels and . raieth, when 'Lis moll turbulent and unruly. Secondly,. The floodmay be taken figuratively or myffically (fo I conceive the Pîalm is chiefly to be expounded throughout, though there be a clear and a glorious truth in the outfide and ppe r termes of ir, but I fay, the flood uponwhich the Lord fit- , tech, may be talon figuratively) for the people and Nagions of the world, when they gather together as a flood o upon this flood or confluence of many waters the Lord fitteth, and his fitting there implyeth two things ; Firff, his fixednefs and liability , He is as fure upon the flood as upon a rock, he firs faft,he is immoveable upon that which is moveable ; and fits upon than which cannot fund, a flood of people.
