Chap. 28. ,4n Expofition on the Book of J o B. Verf. 28. 387 (lfa. 63.17.) Why haft thou bardned our hearts from thy fear. As there is a natural hardnefs which every man brings into the world with him,and an additional voluntary, yea affeted hardnefs (fuch was that fpoken of i n the Proverbs) which wicked men bringupon thernfelves;fo there is a judiciary or infi5ed hardnefs, which God by withdrawing his mollifying foftning Spirit, leaves his own people fometimes to, and which God by leaving wicked Men (as he did Pharoab) to the natural hardnefs of their own fpirics gives them up to. And as they who are hardned in the firff and lecond , and in the lafì branch of the third fence, doe calf cff the fear of God ; fo they who are but hardned according to the former branch of ir, as the Church fpoken of in the Prophet did, find a fenfibie abfence of that holy awe and fear of God from their hearts.
