But when a good man lookes home to his own houfe and tees good there, when he alto lookes abroad to Jertfalem and fees good there too, how full is his joy ? how complete is his bleffednets ? and behold thus the man is blefled that feareth theLord,Wc have fibre of fuch promifes in the Proverbs (Chap.2z. 24.) By humili- tyand thefear of the Lord are riches and honour and life ; that is , they who truly fear the Lord, have a promiffe of riches, and a promife of honour,and apromife of life, What an intereft is here ! riches are a great interefi 3 fome think if they can get riches e- nough they haveenough ; othersare hungryafter honour, power, and dignity; a thirdforr,who have both the former, have yet hun gers after life, they are afraid death will remove them from their richesand honour,and to live in that fear is a continual death,but they whohave riches, and honour, and life, whatcan they defire more ? yea, the text is Plural, riches,honour, and loves ; he that feareth the Lord batha promife of many lives, of all forts of life, Natural life, Spiritual life, and Eternal life are his, he is bound up , in the bundle of lives (Pro. 19.2 .) The fear of the Lord tendeth to life,and he that bath itfhall abidefatisfie,e Fear tends to life ; to what life ?ìt is a fpiritual life ; and it bath as a tendency to the p,°- longing and fweetning of natural life,fo an affuranceor (ye uponthe enjoyment of eternal life. And he that bath it (ball abidefatisfled; fatisfaetion is the highefl intereft of all ; it is pot ible for a man to have honour,riches,and life, yet not to be fatisfied. Some who have all ehefe at prefent, have yet many empty corners in their foules ; they have as much riches,as much honour,as much health as they can tell what to doe with, yet they are not fatis6ed, yea they know not what to doe with all there, hut they that fear the LordJhallabidefatisfied ; though they have but little in the world, though they have nothing that can be accounred honour, nothing thatcan be called riches,though they fcarce live while they are in the world,yet they are famished in the loving kindnefs of the Lord whom they fear, and that is better not only then riches and ho- nour, but better then life ((PP, 63< 3.)
