Chap. al, An E.tipoftion upon the Book ; ,j o ri. Vert. I, 4.17 the fupream and impartial Jndgé. Thus we may conceivt jobs fcope and aim in chete three Chapters. More particularly, in this z9th, confider; Firth; The title of the whole difcourfe ; a parable; Moreover, yob continuedhis parable, andPaid. Secondly, In this parable Job makes a large defcription of his once flourithingcondition, from the fecond verfe inclufively to theend of the a tth ; concerning which we may note, Firf+, His carnet withor defire of being re-efiated in what he once enjoyed ; for fo móf# interpret the firft words of the fecond verte, O that Iwere as in montbespa/I. Secondly,Hc leades us to the fountain of his profperity ; which did rife (according to his prefent difcourfe) three wayes. Firß, From that divine care,or eye of providence that watch- edover him, and all his wayes ; this is plainly intimated in the latter part of the fecond verfe ; O that it were with me, &c. as in the dayes when God preferved me ; As if hehad Paid, Iprofpered while, Godpreferved me. Secondly, (which is veer the fame) from that divine favour and grace, goodnefs, and kindnefs, light and love of God cowards him, at the third verfe, when his candle fhined uponmy head, and byhis light I walked through darknefs. Thirdly, He afcribes his profperity to the fret and familiar pretence of God with him. Of which he fpeakes at the 4th and part of the sth verfe ; As I was in thedayesofmy youth, when the fccret of god was uponmy tabernacle ; when the Almighty was yet withme, or when I had fweetetl converfe withGod. Thus fob a. tributes all hisprofperity to the care of Godwatching over him, to the candle of God fhining upon his head, and to the fccret of God abiding upon his tabernacle. Thirdly, He defcribishis profperous fine, by the fubje& of ir, or by that wherein it did confift. The profperity of one man confias in riches, of a nocher in honour, ofa third inchildrenand relations. In Job there was a confluenceof all three. Firft,He had many children, at thedoleof the 5th verle ; when my children were about me. Sécondly, he had aboundance of riches, at the 6th verfe ; When Iwafhed my flops with butter, and the Rock poured me out rivers of oyl. H h h Thirdly
