Chap. 29. an Expofition upon. the Book of Jo s, Verf. 1 4. And as righteoufnefs and judgement are the cloathing and crown of the Magiftrate, fo of every man in his ranck and place. All the Graces are the cloathing of the Saints Pat on (filth the Apofile , Col. 3.12)bowells of merciet, kkindnefo, humblece js ofmind, mteknefs,long-ftferirg. And as the Apofile peter (t Eph.3.3,4) admoniihech profefsing women, we may admonifh men and all; Let not your adorning be that outward adorning ofplatting the Bair, and ofwearing of Gold, and of putting on of Apparel ; but let it be in the hidden man of the heart, to that which io not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet fpirit, which in the fight ofGod is ofgreat price. And again (Chap. ç. 5.) Be ye cloathed with hu- mility. Gold and Silver are but drofs to the leaf+ grain of grace ; O 1er grace fpatkle in your lives, that's better then to have Gold and Silver fparkle on your garments. The Apoflle dorh not deny the tare of thefe, but be denyes that thefe are or can be our adorn- ing. Many are proud of their cloaching, the wicked are cloathed with pride ; they have not only their flea cloaths on, but the beft cloaths on (how-ever elfe cloathed) whaare cloathed with righ- teoufnefs and humility. And all they who bave put on Chrifl as their Robe and Diadem, are certainly cloatbed with both theft Graces, and with whatfoever befides thefe is true ly graceful.. J ;O B, 533
