The 28th of Deuteronomy contains the Charter of outward 1?leflìng to the Jews,and they are particularly named, in cafe of obedience,ForLMofes having given onepromife:ingeneral (y. r.) The 12th Pfalm,befides manyother,carries out the fame promife eminently (v. r,z, 3.) Bleffed is the man thatfeareth the, Lord, that delight ethgreatly in bis commandements, bisfeed ¡hall be mighty uponearth ; the gene- ration of the upright (hall be bleffed ; wealth and riches (hall be in bis boufa,andhis.righteoufnefrendureth for ever ; that is, the fruit of his righteous dealing (hall be upon his pofierity from genera- tion to generatiow,or as-the Law"fpeaks,to a thoufand generations; and hence that in the 6th verfe of the fame Pfalm, Surely be (hall not bemoved for ever ; and therefore we have him (7..7, 8.) even laughing dangers in the face ; be (ball not be afraidof evil tidings, hie heart ie fixed crafting in the Lord. Thus the promifes of the old Teflament tanmuch upon temporalls, though fpirituals were atwayes included, and fometimes expreiTed; and though the promifes of the newTefiament tunas toff upon fpiritualls, yet temporals are alwayes included,and fometimes exprefhed(t Tim. ,q.. 8.) Godlinefs is profitable for all things, andbath the promife of this life,&c.Now if the Lord make promife, we ought to rake him upon his word for earthly things,as well as for heavenly; and if faith have taken hold on a promife, though it be but for earthly things, it will work'the heart into a quietnefs about them, it will deliver us from troublefome fears that they will alter while in our judgements we are convinced of their fubjeetion to, alteration, both in refpea of their own nature (which is oceed- itsg
