Laughter is proper toman as the effect and iffue of his reafon. , For though many laugh when they haveno reafon to laugh, yet none can laugh who have no reafon ; and therefore though laugh- ter be attributed to chofe things which not only are !without rea fon, but without fence, yet'crs fo only improperly or metaphori- cally in allufion toman. The word here aired is applyed to a threefold laughter in Scripture. FUR, To a (corning or a deriding laughter fo in the 39 :h of this book at the 7thverle ; God, defcribiog the wild Affe, faith; He(corned the multitude oftheicity, his benfe ie the wildernefs, and the barren landhis dwelling,whar cares he for crowdedCities. We have the fame notion of laughter (Plea. 2, 4.)
