As he gracioufly gives the garments ofpraifefor the fpirit ofbea- v'ineee to the meeke and humble, (I,ra. 61. 3.) fo he righte- oufly gives the garment ofheavineffe to thofe who have .a fpi- rit of pride, or a proud fpirit. When 7efhua the Higb- Priefl was cloathed withfilthy gar- events, andflood before the Angel ( that is, Chrift in the vifion, Zeeñ.3.3.) we read in the 4th,verfe, how He (that is,Chrifl the Angel) anfwered and1pake unto thofe that flood before him, faying, Take away thefilthy garmentsfromhim. And unto {him hefain, 1 have castled thine iniquity to patefrom thee, andIwill cloath thee with change of raiment. As Chrift in rieb mercy takes away the filthy garments of hispeople., both of tin and rnifery or affli i- on, (. fuch were thofe with which 7,flsua was cloathed) and gives them change of raiment, chat is, pardon through his blood and righteoufnefl'e, as allo outward peace and profperity. So Chrift in much wrath takes away the pompous garments, the purple and fine linnen, withwhich the wicked either men or women ate cloathed, (ehemfelves being cloathed with wickedreffe) and gives them filthy garments; or as another Prophet fpeaket, ( Ifs. 3.24.)
