The life ofman in this world is trouble andfurrow. \'Vee areeither dayly preffed with our own fufferings, or we ought to be with the fufferings of others. Molt times wee are preffed with burdensof our owne; and ifat"anÿ time we are not, yet there are burdens enow upon our friends and relations at home,or upon the peopleand Churches ofGod abroad topreffe us. Wee may wel conclude from thefepremifes,as old 7 scob did, Few and ovill are the dayes ofour pilgrimage ; For as they who havehad molt dayes have lived but a little while, fo they who have had the bell dayes have lived but with little cafe, or (as we fay ) in a kind oflittle eafe. What with our owneforrowes,what with the forrowes ofothers, what have we'elfe but forrow ? lob having thus (hewed in what frame hisheart was towards thofe whom he law afkliciedwith any evil! , proceeds to íhew how himfelfe was difappointed of that good which he expe- eted. Verf. 26. when /lookedforgood, then evilicame untomee. The word rendred, lookedfor, notes hops, which is an inward looke, or the Tooke ofthe mind. The foulehath its eye as well as the body ; There is an eye offaith in thefoule, lookingupon the truth ofthe promife ; and there is an eye ofhope in the foule, looking for the good ofthe promife. And untill we looke to the promife, believing the truthofit, wecan never looke to the pro- mile hoping for the good ofit. Thus David refolved ( Pfal.izt. i. ) 1will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my kelpe, my helpe comets from the Lord, &c. What eyes did David lift up to the hills ?
