Any one of these three reafons,much more all three layd together, have weight enough in them to preffe even a rational], furely then a godly roan to maintaine acon- ftant watch over his eyes, that his thought contra& no pollution by them. That's the(copeandcommon tendency ofthe eon:ext now in hand. Verf. z. what portion ofGod is there from above, or, what lot ? God as a Father, provides portions for hisChildren, and cuts out or divides toevery one his lot; Every godly man hath a Childes portion fromGod his Father. What portion ofGod is there from above? That is Era, what portion is there prepared and layd up by God, either firft in his Decree, or fecondly, in his promifes, ( our portions are thus layd up, they are layd up in the decree or purpofes as alfu in the covenant and promifes of God ) Now, w{oat share or portion (faith ) can any man hoto, for in the decree or promifes of Tod, if he negle& the Commandements of God Secondly, What portionofgod is there from above? that is, what portion is there wrought or cut out by the providence of God for his good whofe wayes are evill ? That nhich i.e laydup inpromifes for us, is wrought out ór brought forth by providences. The love of God makes promifes, and the cate of God fulIfil!s them. We have that diftin&ion exprefTely (Pfal.3 1.19,) 0 how great is thy good»t,e which thu haft ¡yd up for them that feare thee, and which thou haft wrought for them that truft in thee be- fore to formes ofmen. Here is a twofold goodneffe of God. First, A goodneffe layd up ; Where ? Surely in his decrees and promifes. Secondly A goodneffe wrought out. Flow? Surely by his difpenfationsand providences.
