Chap. 3 t. An Expofitiost upon the Boeke of J o B. Vert.. z. As wicked men have no part nor portion inGod,fo God bath no part nor portion in wicked men ; God bath a portion only in believers, and theirs only is in him. (Deut.3z.9.)The Lords por- tion is hie people, jtacob it the lot ofhit inheritance ; There we have both the words of the text. When Peter (Joh.13.8.) fayd to Chrift, Thou ¡hale never wa/bmyfeet, ?efses an/xrered him,ifI wa/h thee not, thou haft no part with mee. As they that are not wafhed haveno part in Chrift , fo Chrift bath no part in thofe that are not walked, that is, he loth not Tooke upon them as his owne, or he Both not owne them. The wicked are Satans portion, bee ownes them, and they ( though few doe it profeffedly) owne him. The greateft part of mankinde will fall to the Devills ¡hare. Confider what portion or intereft God bath in you if you doe wickedly, he hath none at all. Impure thoughts, and wicked a&ions, defile a man bothwithin and without, God will have his portion clean and holy ; God bath and will have a portion among men , but it is a faire portion. The acrifices of old were of cleane beafts, and ofthemwithout fpot; none are the part and portion of God, but the cleane and fpotieffe. They that defile themfelves with adultery and fornication, God will judge, but he cannot approve. When God calleth for the heart as his portion, he saeanes a pure heart, and a whole heart; He calls for our whole body to be his Temple, but it mull be a shaft body, a body free ( through Grace) from defilements. (1 Cor.6. r 5.) Knowyee not that your bodies are the members ofChrift , ¡hall I then take the members of Chrift, andmake them the members ofa harlot? Clod forbid. Cleane bodyes, not the members ofa harlot, are tote members ofChrift. The Apoftle joynes thofe two toge- ther, thefornicator, and the prophane, and figures them both by ¿fate whowas caft out , and in whomGod had no part nor por- tion, ( Heb. 1z. 16. ) Left therebe anyfornicators or profaneper- fon as Efau , who for one morfell of meat fold his birth-right. even fo doth every wicked and uncleane perfon; he fels his birth- right for a poore morfell of meat, for a vanitbing pleafure; thofe likeEfate are hated ofGod, he bathno pleafure, nor por tion in them ; yea ( as the Lord fpeakes in the Prophet concern- inghated Efate ( Mal. I. 3.) He will lay their mountains and their heritage waft for the dragons of the wilderneffe, and will at laft doe thatagaintt them for ever, whieh the Churchcomplained S f God 313
