Farther, the word punifhment is not expreffed in the Hebrew text, but only implyed and couched in another word. And fo the Scripture fpeakes elfewhere,fpeaking ofpunifhment (Amos+1z, r 3.)Tberefore these will I doe unto theeO Ifrael,ana becaufe I will doe thus to thee, prepare to meet thy Clod O Ifrael. Surelyhis meaning is, that it is an evil! fo (orange, that he was eyther loth or knew not how to expreffe it, which (hall come upon the workers ofiniquity. Yea fome conceave that this word which we render as an ad- jeetive or Epithete, trange, is to be taken fubftantially, for Strangenes or Alienation, and fo isnot an intimation of Come o- ther punithment,butan expreonof that particular punifhment whichThal! come upon the workers ofiniquity. And then the words are rendred thus; Is not Strangenes (eftrangement or A- lienation ) to the workersof iniquity.? But you will fay , what pu. nifhment is there in that, or what punifhment is that ?
