Verf.t 6. _ . ¡therefore hold petitioners upon the racke of expeciation,becaufe they love to be waited upon ; we may difcover three forts of this humour. Firft , Some when they know the thing defired is not in their power to doe, yet they will not lay plainly they cannot doe it (to be fpeedy in denying what we cannot doe, is a favour as well as to ba 1peedy in granting what We can doe, yet I fay, (orne will not prefently fay they cannot doe what indeed they cannot ) becaufe they have an ambition to be attended upon and mud] fought unto. Secondly, Others who from the firft moment that a fuite is made to them, are refolved in their owne breath or are fully in- tcndod never to doe it, though it be in their power todoe it ; yet they will not fay they will nut doe it, but hold poore fuiters in a long Curpence. It is tome courrefie to fay we will not doe, what we have no minde todoe and are purpoted not todoe. But the policy of fome men is too great for this poynt ofcharity. Thirdly, There are others, who are both able and willing, yea refolved to grant the poore their defire , yet for Rate they make the poore flay and the widdows waite till their eyes fa le ; And o doe as much torment loiters with their delayes, as they benefit them with their reliefe. They that take lush Elate in do. ing courtefies, loofe their reward with God, and their refpeets fromman. He that ftayes long for a favour,hath more thenhalfe deferved and payd for it. 'Tis the priviledgeofGod to makemart waite his pleafure.
