Now from this reading of the words, By reafot of his burden or keavines I could not endure. Obferve. The wrath of God is very burdenfome. 'Tis a burden tooheavy to be borne ; Man cannot beare it ; The Apoftatiing Angels could not beare it yea jefus Ch:ift himfelle, when he undertook the redemption of fallen man fweat drops ofblood inbearing it. David confeffed (PAal. 38. 4. ) (Aline iniquities aregone over my head : ar anheavy burden, they are too heavyfor me.ftut what madehis iniquities fo heavy?doubt- leffe it was his apprehension of the wrath of God wisich bis ini- quities had deferved, andby their guilt fubjecaed him unto. Car- nal men have mounraines ofiniquity upon them,yet are not bur- dened with them, but make light, yea a fport of them becaufe theyare not fencible of that wrath which is due to them. Mofes in his prayer (Pja1.90.1 r.that's the title of it) crgeth out, Who knowetb the power(f thine zinger ?even accordingto thy feare, fo is thy wrath. There is a power , and a weight in the anger ofthe Lord, whichno man ( who apprehends it) is able to endure or fiand under ; yea,no man is able fully to apprehend ir. As ,here is an incomprehenfible love ofGod ; even a hight,and breedth,and length,and depth,which man is not able to comprehend ; fo is his anger, fo is his wrath iccomprehenfible. They who apprehend the leaft of it, are preffed with its weight beyond enduring. As glory which is the full maoifeilationof God to the foule, in his love, and goodneffe, and holineffe, is called a weight,( 2 Cor. 4. 17.) what weight ? not a burdenfome weight, not an oppreßing weight,but an honourable weight, it is called a weight, becaufe of the greatnes, and excellencyof it, and becaufe it makes chofe who have it weighty and honorable, Now as there is a bleffed weight, or a weight ofbleffednes inGlory ; fo there is a mifera- ble weight, a weight ofmifery in that wrath of God which is ready to be powred downe upon the head of(inners.
