Chap. 31. An Expoftion upon the Rook! of J 0 a. Verf. 30. 621._ Wordunto 7ac,,b, hisStatutes and hie judgements unto Iliad: bekath net dealtfoWith*any Natisn, and asfor hie 7tedgements they bave not known: them. In this fenceGod (offered all Nations to walke in their ownewayes ; He gave them not his word, his Sta- tutes, his Judgements, to fhew them his waye>;,or to hinder them in their owne, and this was a fore.Judgement. Secondly God doth not only fuffer nations and perlons to walke in their owne wayes, but fometimes ( when his wrath is boyled up to the higheft)hegives up nations and perlons to their owne h arts loft ( 1.26.) For ale caufe Godgave them up unto vile afttitions : fr even their women didchange the naturad life into that which is againft nature ;*and (v. 28.) Godgave them over to a reprobateminde ( or a mind voyd of Judgement) to doe thofe things which are not convenient. Goddid not only leave them to their lufts, and let them worke wickedneswithout checke and controle, but in a Judiciary way he put them into the hand of their lufto, and(as 'tis fayd in that dreadfull prophetical threat, (Tfal.69.27.) He added iniquity to their inigieity;that is,he gave them full fcope in fin, making their latter in:quicy the punifhment oftheir former iniquity. The fullfillingofwhich threat upon the Jewes, who malicioufly perfecuted and crucified Chrift , is let down at large by the Apostle (t Thef. z. is , 16.) Who both killed the Lord ?efue, and their owne 'Prophets, and have perfecuted ou : and they pleafenot god,nnd are contrary to all men ; forbidding au to j'eak_e to the Gentiles, that they might befaved, rofill up their fins alway : for the wrath iecome upon them to the utte f. The A- poftle faith not, wrath is come upon them, bur(norantèr)tberorath is come upon them to the utmofì; that is, The wrath threatned in the P alme laR cited, Aide iniquity to their iniquity ; for thus the Jewes were given up to the wrathfulnes of their owne fpirits againft Chrift and the Golpel, to fill up their fins alway, as the Apoitle there fpeakes. And fo God added iniquity to their ini- quity, and didnot let them come (ask follows in that place ofthe Pialme) into bia righteoufnes; that is, into the righreoufneffeof Chrift by faith, but left them as to the pollution of their owne lofts, fo to a Juftification by their owne workes ( Rom. i0. 3. ) which was a greater judgement then the other, and theperfect- ing of the threatning to the utmoft. Thus we feehow G:od'inhis fecret but molt righteous Judge, ment,
